John Neely Bryan Log Cabin and a Brief Overview of the Area

This cabin is a restored replica of the first house in Dallas; a flood mostly destroyed the original in the late 1800s. The cabin stands at Dallas County Historical Plaza also known as Founders Plaza less than a quarter mile from Bryan's original site.

Brief Overview of the Area
Dallas is centrally located in the North American Continent between the East and West Coasts of the United States and in the North Central part of the state of Texas. It is part of a large urban area which includes Fort Worth, surrounding communities, and counties. The Metroplex region had a 2000 population total of 5,221,801; new revised figures Jan. 01, 2008 by the NCTCOG put the total at 6,538,850. The US Census Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) list the DFW area as the fourth largest metropolitan area in the nation, only the metros areas of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago have more people.
Fact: The D-FW area added more than 250 residents a day between 1990 and 1999, producing a D/FW growth rate of almost 21%. The Dallas area was responsible for the daily addition of more than 170 of these new residents.
The DFW urban area grew the fastest of the large urban areas in the nation. New figures from the 2000 Census now show D-FW area grew 29.3% between 1990 and 2000. Those figures relate to an increase of 1.2 million residents, a population increase that is the size of the city of Dallas.

The area is less than four hours away by air from the major cities of the U.S., Canada and Mexico; no other major city in the North American Continent offers that convenience. The airport is one of the most efficient, largest and busiest airports in the world.
Fact: DFW Airport has an annual impact on the North Texas economy of more than $11.2 billion and supports nearly 211,000 jobs.
Dallas and the rest of the Metroplex area overall continue to experience a very strong and fast growing economy which is one of the fastest in the nation; particularly in sectors such as services, finance, and telecommunications. The Dallas-Fort Worth area added more jobs in the decade of the 1990s than any other major metropolitan area in the United States averaging 100,000 new jobs a year since 1995 and is on pace again for the year 2000.
