Built in 1959, Dallas got
its first cluster of diversified buildings downtown. It was called Southland
Center consisting of the 42-story office tower, the 29-story
Sheraton Hotel, a shopping mall, restaurants, clubs, and a large underground
parking garage. The 31-story north tower formerly known as Skyway Tower was
added in 1981. All three structures are steel with the exterior of curtain wall and pre-cast
masonry. The three building complex was recently restored and formerly
Adam's Mark Hotel. Sheraton Hotel now occupies the entire complex including a
large convention center across Olive Street to the west of the complex.
This is the largest hotel in Texas and one of the largest hotels in
the Southwest with 1,844 guest rooms.
