Energy Plaza
Architect: I.M. Pei & Partners

The 49-story Energy Plaza skyscraper is located near the center of downtown on Bryan Street along the DART Rail line and just north of Thanks-Giving Square. Energy Plaza actually consists of three triangular structural sections at different heights. The lowest section that defines part of the base of the building is 6-stories high and is mostly seen from the south side. The main body of the building rises as an equilateral triangle up to 43-stories. Half of the building is roofed over at this point leaving a final triangular shaft rising six floors higher to 49-stories. On the north side a vertical notch carved into the tower rises to the 43rd floor.
The identity of each triangular section change as the building is seen from different angels, emphasizing a shifting effect. This style in office building design is very much in common with the other two Fountain Place and One Dallas Centre; both designed by the same architect I.M. Pei & Partners.
At street level on the eastern sector, the same geometry unifies the plaza created by pulling the tower back from the sidewalk, therefore allowing the triangular setting leading to the main entrance of the office building. Energy Plaza has connections to the underground tunnel network and skywalk bridge for retail shops and restaurants. Initially the building was known as the ARCO Tower for Atlantic Richfield Company's regional offices but since moved out and today the main tenant is TXU Corp.
