Fountain Place

Architect:  Henry N. Cobb I.M. Pei & Partners  (Internationally acclaimed award-winning design)

Fountain Place is a unique 60-story skyscraper appearing like a glittering glass prism, definitely a symbol of superior architecture.  The skyscraper is most extraordinary of the other two Dallas skyscrapers designed by I.M. Pei & Partners, One Dallas Centre and Energy Plaza.  All three have the carved away design, but when looking at this skyscraper with its ten-sided exterior of vertical and angled walls, it never appears the same from any given angle.  Although the base of the structure is square about half of the amount has been carved away for open spaces, allowing a three-acre plaza with numerous fountains and waterfalls under shady bald cypress trees.  Designed by the noted landscape architect Daniel Kiley, this inviting place of oasis-like amazement and  amusement is unique as well and has emerged as one of the great urban places in America.

The original plans for the development called for a second twin tower that was not built.  Location was just north adjacent to the existing tower within the block area.  Although in relation to the existing tower, the second tower would be in a 90-degree cross-position. The second tower was also to include the famous plaza and water gardens with connections to the first tower.  Definitely the first tower is an incredible site to see, you can only imagine how both towers would have looked.
